Ghost Signal
The connected experience scape room
The Game:
Ghost Signal is a multi-level escape room experience that immerses players in a flight mission filled with secrecy, teamwork, and technical challenges. Designed as part of the Design Connected Experiences course, the game merges digital and physical interactions through real-time sensor data, Arduino-based modules, and a split-role narrative. Players act as either the Pilot or the Flight Commander, tasked with navigating, decoding messages, and restoring systems under pressure.
Role: Interaction & Hardware Design, Color-based Detection System, Radar Debugging

My role & contributions
I was responsible for designing and building the first level of the escape room, including the physical color-detection board and its real-time radar tracking system.

My work involved:
-
Programming the ESP32 and debugging serial communication issues.
-
Integrating the Colorado Cam and ultrasonic sensor to detect the plane’s position.
-
Calibrating hue detection for different lighting conditions.
-
Solving issues with radar responsiveness and ensuring reliable data transfer between modules.

Throughout the project, I also improved my confidence with Arduino circuitry, sensor integration, and technical debugging, growing from someone hesitant with hardware into someone who now enjoys the challenge.

Reflection
This project was a major turning point in my journey with physical computing. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me discover that I enjoy working on the technical side of design. I’m proud of the resilience I showed when things didn’t work the first time, and the progress I made feels like a solid foundation for future hardware-integrated experiences.
